Edo 2020: I have no plan for Guber race, says Ex Deputy Gov

Edo 2020: I have no plan for Guber race, says Ex Deputy Gov

By Edosa Okunbo

Former Deputy Governor and All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain, Edo State, Chief Lucky Imasuen has shrugged off suggestions that he has perfected plans to contest the governorship electoral position ahead of the 2020.

The message which was conveyed by one of his Aide and former Egor Local Government Chairman, Honourable Ehi Egharevba disclosed that his principal who is currently on vacation in the United Kingdom has no plans to run for gubernatorial elections in the state.

Hon Egharevba expressed disappointment over the rumor while describing those behind it as political mushrooms  who have nothing to offer in the political space.

"They are few cheap blackmailers from Uhen ward 4 in Ovia North East who relies on destroying others to climb the ladder of success. Come to think of it, Chief Imasuen has attained A veritable height having been Deputy governor in the state and Chief of staff.

Recall as well that Chief Lucky Imasuen Contested this position twenty years ago so why will anybody feel that it is now a priority to recontested similar position

Let me tell you that he is very satisfied and proud of what he has achieved", he explained.

Hon Egharevba, believes that his principal is a Democrat who is very ready to give back to the society by supporting the government and his party in achieving more in the area of infrastructural development in the years to come.

He however, warned against utterances capable of steering unnecessary bickering amongst party men while suing for focus on positive initiatives of  the state government rather than resorting to false speculations.

Edo govt charges women on frontline role in politics

Edo govt charges women on frontline role in politics

To ensure women are empowered to contribute meaningfully to national development, the Edo State Government has said it has set up structures and programmes to ensure women are given the opportunity to take active roles in politics and governance.

Speaking at a four-day training workshop tagged ‘Peace and Confidence Building for Women Leaders’ in Auchi, Edo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon (Mrs.) Magdalene Ohenhen charged participants to overcome their doubts about taking active roles in governance as it was only through such opportunities that they can change policies and perceptions that hold women down.

The four-day training workshop organised by The West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP-Nigeria) and supported by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).

Ohenhen explained that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration has instituted gender-friendly policies to complement the organisation’s objectives in enhancing capacity for women in rural areas.

She noted, “The training workshop is apt as it will build the confidence of women to contribute to the nation building and development. It will also prepare them for the World Bank-sponsored Nigeria for Women Project which will benefit 54,000 women in the state.

“Women must grow beyond the slogan, 'you neglect a woman, you lose an election' and take the bold step to occupy the front seat in politics,” she stressed.

According to her, “The only way to get rid of the fear of doing something is to go out and do it. Action is the key. It is on this note I want to shower encomium on WANEP and NORAD for a well-thought-out training workshop and also to urge all participants to make the most of the opportunity, so as to step it down to targeted stakeholders groups in the state.”

National Network Coordinator of WANEP-Nigeria, Chief (Mrs) Bridget Osakue, said the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) provides an organised platform for collaborative peacebuilding by indigenous (NGOs) in conflict transformation and development in Nigeria.

“Our thematic areas are conflict prevention, women in peacebuilding, active non- violence and peace education, democracy and good governance as well as research and documentation. Women must key into programmes that are essential to building relationships and peace because women have a lot to contribute to society,” she said.

Executive Director, Global Women for Quality and Sustainable Development Initiative, Amb. Chief Marian Kadiri-Ezolome, said her organisation is collaborating with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to step down the training workshop across the 18 local government areas in the state

Easter: Obaseki tasks Christians on sacrifice, redemption, love

Easter: Obaseki tasks Christians on sacrifice, redemption, love

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has called on Christians to imbibe the virtue of selfless service and love in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the hallmark of the Easter season.

Obaseki made the call to mark Easter, a holiday in the Christian calendar which marks the end of the 40-day Lenten season. It is celebrated by several Christian denominations across the world.

The governor noted, “I join Christian faithful in Edo State and across the world in celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice to redeem mankind is an enduring example to all.

“As we mark Easter Sunday, it is important to reflect on the lessons of selflessness, the virtue of love and redemption. I encourage everyone not just to uphold the love shared this period but also to ensure that it becomes a part of our lives every day.”

Obaseki added, “With selfless service and passion for the downtrodden as key teachings on Easter, I enjoin everyone to be their brother’s keeper, work to foster peace and togetherness, and uphold the collective good of all in our dealings.”

The governor assured Edo residents that adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration in the state.
