Tailors
in Edo State have threatened to throw their weight behind the
candidate of the opposition party due to the inability of the Edo State
Government, led by Comrade Adams Oshiomole to redeem all his promises
made to the association.
Comrade Bayo
Oladepopo, State Secretary, Tailors and Fashion Designers Association of
Nigeria, Edo State Chapter, made the declaration on the occasion of
Tailors Day Celebration, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Indoor
Sports Complex, Benin City, yesterday.
Comrade
Bayo Oladepopo who read the speech prepared by Comrade Isaiah
Onaiwu Okungbowa, State President, Tailors and Fashion Designers
Association of Nigeria, Edo State Chapter ; also State Chairman,
National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria, Edo
State Chapter, said on his own that the association with their numerical
strength can decide to switch their allegiance to the opposition party
due to the inability of the Comrade Governor, Adams Oshiomole to redeem
his promises to the association having meant only two out of the
promises.
"Comrade sir, as you know the union
is non-partisan, and because you are from our constituency, and to
reinstate it, all the members are ready and are with their voters cards
to do the same for your party if you can only redeem your pledges and
failing to redeem it, fellow comrade what will happen? Are will not
going to relocate?
According to the address of the State President, Comrade Isaiah Onaiwu, said
the
state governor, Adams Oshiomole on the 15 of March, 2011, during their
first Tailors Day, promised to donate a Bus, N75 million loan with 6%
interest rate, 100 sewing machines and N2m to the union but he has only
redeemed the pledge of the N2m and the hundred sewing machines while
others are yet to be meant.
Defending the
personality of the governor of the state, the National President,
National Union of Textile and Garment and Tailoring Workers of
Nigeria, Comrade John Adaji said the Comrade Governor that he knows is a
man that would always keeps his words noting that having meant two out
of four of their needs, he should be commended.
Comrade
Adaji said at times, the government would want to take care of the
needs of those outside his constituency having come from the tailoring
background adding that they should understand such.
He
urged the association not to relent in their support for the government
but should always support him and his team to succeed adding that they
must also support whosoever the comrade governor is bringing to succeed
him.
On the part of the Hon. Commissioner of
Special Duty and Establisment, Comrade Didi Adodo who represented the
Comrade Governor of the state, Adams Oshiomole, he said the governor is
aware of the promises he made and that he is conscious of fulfilling
them and that, which he could not accomplish in his tenure, his
successors would take off from where he has stopped stressing that, that
is the reason the union must support continuity of the All Progressives
Congress led government by voting qMr. Obaseki Godwin for governor and
Hon. Philip Shaibu as his deputy.
Governor
Adams Oshiomole while reacting to the issue of multiple taxation, he
alleged that such could be the handiwork of the opposition who have
allegedly recruited unknown persons to go about collecting taxes on
behalf of the state government with the aim of painting the government
in bad light. He said the association though cannot be exonerated from
tax, stressed that the only place they could pay their taxes, is the
Board of Internal Revenue of the state.
