Responding to what he described as a falsehood, the Chairman of the Council, Hon Scott Ogbemudia, through his Spokesperson, Valentine Osunbor, said to set the Record Straight, the Council Staffers, have been paid full Salaries except for three months which include, March, October and November, which is not peculiar to Ovia North East Local Government alone.

According to Osunbor, “We are not unaware that the Covid-19 Pandemic ravaging effects on the World Economic, talk more of a local Government Areas administration that have Struggled to pay their Salaries”.

“My question now is, if the Said Council Boss didn't embezzle while he was able to pay his staff comfortably during the trying periods, is it when All Councils are struggling to pay their Staffers, he will have accesses to such a huge fund that would gladly use in paying his Staff?

Osunbor argued that, those behind the neck breaking blackmailing are enemies of a progressive society who only lean against a sinking pole and dish out their last breath of many episodes of unfounded digs.

He admonished them to seek as a matter of urgency forgiveness like their master, a better way of creating and promoting the Council, State, and the society rather than becoming objects of mockery.

There have been a long walk for the fourteen elected Edo House of Assembly Members to the Anthony Enahoros' Complex to make laws and justify their selections in the representation of their constituents.

The intriguing story about them is that, for several months since they were democratically elected, they have never represented those who confided in their respective potentials to bring about the change required in their various constituents.

In one front, they are seen by the government as elected rebels who only seek to earn for their selfish motives.

But on another front, they are seen as those who are Victims of political power tussles that had been totally denied of their legitimate legislative businesses by higher authorities.

The election of March 9, 2019, may have Produced 24 legislative disciples that will from time to time decide the fate of the common man for the next four years in Edo State.

The victory in that symbolic feat, sounds like the real deal in a new paradigm shift of Democratic permutations.

Because, it was the first of its kind since the inception of the nascent Democratic dispensation to have all legislative seats to a party.

Although, the driver in the monopolistic race presumably would have thought at least 20 to 4 elective members to have opposition that perhaps challenge some decisions.

But no one would believe that in a state where the number of political parties that contested was over fifty yet no party got even a seat.

By indication, they could not even sell a virus to any of the opposition parties, hence the ruling party then, bagged it all.

The results polled and declared by electoral umpire shows the ruling All Progressive Congress defeated all other parties by implication.

Back then For Governor Godwin Obaseki, it was Heals healthy for his party to have the legislative arm in his pockets to help fortify his developmental parlance.

Recall that in his electioneering campaign, Obaseki solicited support from electorates to vote all candidates representing his then party, APC, to have a robust government.

He wasn't though disappointed as he had all seats to himself.

Contrary to the 2015 election, the APC won three out of the five Assembly seats in Edo Central.

But this has since changed with the stronghold of the main opposition party, PDP succumbed to intense pressure of the ruling party APC after the demise of Chief Tony Anenhi the man ones described as political craft.

Flowing from the impressive outing of the All Progressives Congress APC, candidates, in the Edo State House of Assembly election, some ascribed the landslide victory during the election to Governor Godwin Obaseki's style of governance resonating well with the people.

THE LONG WAY CRISIS.

The prolonged crisis, which had its roots in the supremacy squabble between Governor Godwin Obaseki and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Adams Oshiomhole, started on June 17, 2019, when nine of 24 members of the Assembly, who were all elected on the platform of the APC, were Allegedly secretly inaugurated.

According to multiple reports, the governor had earlier scheduled the proclamation of the Assembly for June 7, but it could not hold because he was said to be absent.

However, while they were waiting to be inaugurated, the Clerk of the Assembly, Yahaya Omogbai, was said to have ushered nine of them into the chamber and read out the letter of proclamation transmitted to his office by Governor Obaseki at 10 p.m. on June 17 which was firmly denied having happened in the acclaimed time.

It was speculated then that, the exclusion of the 15 members-elect who were also perceived as Oshiomhole finger prints and loyalists was to prevent them from taking control of the state legislature.

Thus, at the nocturnal sitting of the nine members-elect, the lawmaker Frank Okiye Esan North East Constituency I, as Speaker against Oshiomhole’s preferred candidate after the proclamation.

Since then, 12 of the members-elect have refused to be inaugurated while two of those who later presented their certificates of return to the Clerk and were inaugurated had not been attending plenary.

In December 2019, the Speaker, Okiye, declared vacant the seats of 12 members-elect for deliberately refusing to present their certificates of return to the Clerk of the Assembly for inauguration.

He also declared the seats of Honorables, Uyi Ekhosuehi and Henry Okaka, representing Oredo East and Owan East respectively, vacant for allegedly absconding from plenary after the inauguration.

He had hinged the decision on the fact that if the lawmakers-elect began to come for sitting from then, they would not meet the mandatory 180 sitting days enshrined in Section 109, Subsection 1(F) of the 1999 Constitution.

WHERE WE ARE NOW.

Since their elections on March 9, 2019, the affected Members-elect, Vincent Uwadiae, Ovia North-East II; Ugiagbe Dumez, Ovia North-East I; Washington Osifo, Uhunmwode; Victor Edoror, Esan Central; Kingsley Ugabi, Etsako East and Michael Ohio-Ezomo, Owan West.

Others included Sunday Aghedo, Ovia South-West; Chris Okaeben, Oredo West; Crosby Eribo, Egor; Aliyu Oshiomhole, Etsako West II; Oshomah Ahmed, Etsako Central and Ganiyu Audu, Etsako West I.
Hadn't represented their constituents leaving them out of legislative range and accordance with their people.

The romance between the executive Arm of Government and the Legislative Arm suddenly became soured when interest got over the bar.

For sure, many underlying factors had been attributed to things falling apart between the former Governor of the state and labor gaffer, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his Successor, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

This precipitated across followers of both interests, thereby, leading to a crack in the Ruling All Progressive Congress with a divide to both henchmen.

Attempts to bridge the crack got worse with both Party's henchmen refusing to back down as conflicts degenerated beyond considerations and acceptance.

The party, APC, became internally fractured and factionalized.

In all the tussle, fourteen members choose to go with Oshiomhole leaving the incumbent with his fate of moving the state forward with only Ten members

Time is of essence and far spent at the expense of the electorate,
but it remains to be seen just how many people will pay the price for their reoccurring failures.

At the moment, the fourteen members are in Federal high court Abuja seeking justice over s possibility of a new proclamation.

This may be a long way to justice if there would be another procedure for such proclamation by same Governor within a Constituted period.

However, it is such a perceived crisis which could end up seeing someone else return to team up with other members who have been fortunate enough to be inaugurated.

THE HONEST CONSEQUENCES OF CONSTITUENTS.

The legislature is one of the major attributes of democratic governance and if effective, could ensure good governance and provide a forum for grassroots representation.

As legislators represent various
constituencies, they have direct contact with the local populace and are able to have a feel of their needs and concerns.

The oversight role of the legislature enables it to review, study and
evaluate the implementation of laws including the use of public funds and resources.

The legislature is one of the Organs of Government in a modern
democracy, which plays a dual role of governance and also of representing the citizens in Government.

It is the most singular institution that ensures the representation of citizens giving them a feeling of inclusiveness; to feel that they own the Government by having a say in how its affairs plays.

The anti-climactic exit to pitch tent with the Governor's Predecessor, has once again brought the future of the fourteen members elect into discussion, although, they might well argue that the fact they were democratically elected seemed so probable in the first place which is evidence of their credentials for the job.

But as both camps seek to condemn each other and appeal to emotions of the electorate in the state to their advantage, what is clear from the foregoing is that the 24 lawmakers are fighting for their political interests, not necessarily the interest of the common man.

What is wrong with their method is that, they have allowed themselves to be pawns in the hands of their political benefactors.

Two honest consequences will be used to clearly depict their effects;

First, no member of the rebellious infantry lawmakers have represented their constituents for barely two years. By implications, when their tenures would have ended, they would have succeeded in depriving the people who elected them of true representations.

Secondly, they would have succeeded in stabbing their own infantry political careers to untimely death with their actions.

Although the only hope and recipe for them, is when they get judgement in court and even at such judgement, will the Governor change his earlier proclamation on them?

If this peradventure become the case, the governor may face likely impeachment. Therefore, it's almost impossible to conduct another proclamation in a singular tenure.

GOV OBASEKI DECAMPING TO PDP

The oversight functions of the 14-member elect in the state have greatly affected them and further negatively impacted the Constituents, flowing from Governor Godwin Obaseki moving to the opposition party, the People's Democratic Party, PDP.

Barely a week after the All Progressive Congress APC disqualified the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki from the Edo APC Gubernatorial Primaries, the governor had found a new home at the major opposition party, People’s Democratic Party.

Obaseki in a statement during his Electioneering Campaigns said the affected members-elect in their selfish pursuits and obedience to their godfather, betrayed the confidence reposed in them by their constituents after the House was proclaimed on June 17, 2019.

Today, Obaseki is of PDP, while the 14-member elect stayed put in their Party, APC, which further widened any move for reconciliations.

This may halt further chances of the rebellious legislatures even when they pretend to decamp, knowing that, it's hard and glaring to sugarcoat the situation after those irritating comments from both end, on one another.

They will continue to go around in circles every time they appear to have turned a corner under their current model.

The question now is that, informed by the decision to create their seats vacant, can a law court upturn their acclaimed unfair treatments and perhaps restore them?

Or would their various Constituents apply caution and wait for the pending judgement or move to change the narrative if they have the legal tendencies to act?

Better still, could this be the end of their legislative businesses given the altercation to pursue their dreams that is geometrically fading?

Nevertheless, in politics, there are no permanent enemies but permanent interests and time will tell if the gauge on car tyre will determine how far a wheel can go.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, believes that, rebuilding the burnt Police Stations and footing the medical bills of Police Personnel that sustained various degrees of injuries during the Endsars Protests, would rekindle their Morales.

Just as he pleaded with them to return to their duty posts and recover the Public Space in line with the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu, order following the unwholesome recent criminal rampaging activities over the absence of Police Personnel in the public space.

Obaseki made the appeal when he paid a solidarity visit to the command days after the #EndSARS protest to ascertain the level of destruction caused by the recent developments.

The Governor said their absence on the street and some conspicuous places in the state could easily be interpreted by the hoodlums who hijacked the good intentions of the #EndSARS protest as weakness and cowardice on the part of the police while urging the police to do everything within their powers to quickly correct the wrong impressions.

According to the governor, “The state government will proceed immediately to rebuild all the destroyed buildings; we have already ordered for patrol vehicles, and we hope the delivery will be in the next few weeks, and they will be delivered to you.

“We will be responsible for the hospital bills of every police man or woman who has been hurt as a result of the incident of the last few weeks. Above all, we will make sure we give the necessary assistance which we can, within the limits of resources available to us.

“The legitimate #EndSARS protesters which I asked you to give protection are not the ones who attacked the police stations, the Oko prison and the Sapele Road prison. They were not the ones that attacked police and their property.”

Obaseki continued; “The people who did that were criminals, and they should be treated as such. I am here today to assure you of our support; criminals cannot take over our state, under whatever guise. They should not intimidate you; they should not allow your morale to be low.

“I want to assure you that the Edo State government will work with you very diligently to re-arrest every inmate that escaped from the correctional facility.”

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, said the presence of the state governor in their midst has boosted their morale to resume and reclaim the state from the hoodlums after the #EndSARS protest.

COMPOL KOKUMO, noted that during the #EndSARS protests, 11 police officers were injured, seven police stations burnt, 16 police patrol vehicles burnt, five police officers’ personal vehicles burnt and 31 exhibit vehicles burnt and destroyed.

The Police gaffer also mentioned that seven AK-47 rifles were recovered, just as he added that, a total of 126 suspects have so far been arrested from the EndSARs protests.

Kokumo disclosed that, out of the 11 injured Personnel, 10 have been discharged from the hospital while one is still at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, receiving treatment.

He, however, appealed to the authority for more support to stem the tide.

According to multiple reports, since the advent of the ENDSARS Protest in Edo State, over one hundred people have been kidnapped whilst ransoms are demanded by fiercely looking gunmen along the Benin Auchi Abuja express way leaving commuters in doubt over their safety.

The continued absence of security Personnel at various flash points in the state, have aided criminal activities, thereby creating fears and palpable insecurities among inhabitants and road users which has warranted calls for Police return to the street.

Its seems a dashed hope for concerned Nigerians over President Muhammadu Buhari's long awaited Nationwide address of October 22, 2020, following weeks of highly tensed youths demand to ENDSARS.

Nigerians, had hoped for an address of reassurances on their plights and demands, but got a package of surprises from a 'TORTOISLY' disconnecting patches from a monumental failed Testudinidae of the order Testudines Government of President Mohammedu Buhari.

Countrymen have been on the street for over 12-day seeking a halt to injustices with their views to  better living conditions.

These seeking a termination to bad leadership had been harassed, maimed, molested and killed for over sixty years without justice by heartless expansionists.

While demanding a harmonious society where everyone is Free to move without fear and intimidation, it would be absolutely denigrating from the authority to deliberately close its eyes on the plight of the Nigerian Youths. The demand is clear and direct.

Nigerian Youths have listed their demands both long term and short term basis resorting to press until a decision is taking to address their concerns.

They are demanding saliently to end all forms of Police brutalities in extension a holistic reformation of the Nigerian Police, Immediate Constitution of the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission, Reformation of the Nigerian Legislative Arm (their excessive financial allocations), Electoral Reforms, Reduction in fuel pump price, Reversal of Electricity tariff, Revitalization of public industries to create jobs, Adequately funding Education and Health Sectors as well as fortify the economy and ensure implementation of the new the minimum wage.

These amongst other demands are what many have intensely requested from Nigerian Government over the past twelve days without serious attempts on the part of the authority.

Although,President Muhammadu

Buhari On Monday, October 12, 2020, acknowledged the concern and agitation of members of the Protesting youths regarding the excessive use of force by some members of SARS.

In his response, the government immediately scrapped SARS, and reportedly, according to them, put measures in place to address the other demands of the youth.

A new Anti Crime Unit, SWAT, was announced by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to replace the scrapped SARS.

But Nigerians were never going to trust the new bargain, thereby, calling for a holistic reformation approach to the Nigerian Police Operations.

The ENDSARS mantra became an inroad to many other demands which escalated to

heightened tensions across the country.

The lekki tollgate protest in Lagos State took a new tune with GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwoolu declaring curfew, probably on noticing that, the agitation had escalated.

Most disheartening piece in the whole lots was the shooting by suspected military on harmless protesters.

Multiple reports from Citizen Journalists and some eye witnesses have confirmed that several persons lost their lives.

Governor Sanwoolu of Lagos State in his Twitter account admitted that there were shootings. He also confirmed that a protester had lost his life with several people injured.

Despite no official statement has been made to confirm the number of casualties recorded in the lekki shootings, it is perceived that lives have been lost considering the heavy sound of guns that suggested the military attack on the unarmed civilian protesters.

However, members of the public including international communities have urged the president to make a Nationwide statement on the issue.

PRESIDENT BUHARI'S ADDRESS

It took the pressure from the four walls to persuade a seating president to speak on a crisis that have consumed Citizens and Properties.

When he managed to do so, it was a compendium of failed garbage from an alien ruler who widely neglect the shooting at Lekki.

Since his enthronement as president, his body language has promoted ethnicism and unfair treatments to the Nigerian Youths.

On the address delivered by a clearly warned out President on the protest rocking the nation, it was aptly disappointing and completely disconnecting from realities of the tragic occurrences in the country for the past weeks.

In Nigeria, to our heroes past, live means a lot. But to the next but disappointing heroes to go, live is meaningless.

In a civilized clime, the people come first and last.

President Buhari address is a pointer to poor leadership and a complete neglect of youths in the face of the Carnage and unrest witnessed lately in Lekki Toll Gate and many other parts of the Country.

A situation of that magnitude that have widely created global concerns Arising from the Human rights abuses currently ongoing in the country under his watch is a serious call for concern.

It is imperative to believe that the unrest as well as the killing of young people in the country, to say the least, not recognize by a man who millions of Countrymen see as a leader, is depressing and failure in empathy test.

People have remained in total shock on how he passed over the overwhelming violence in the Country in recent times.

Arguably too, President Buhari, as the Commander-in-Chief, was silent on the demand by Nigerians on the alleged involvement of the military in the gruesome killing.

In President Mohammedu Buhari's address he emphasized that, “The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.

Now, questions that have been asked rages from who ordered the shooting? Why? How many of such orders have been given to clean up the Sambisa forest marauded for over a decade by Bokoharam ?

Sad enough, his speech of mirage was a complete failure to the long waiting which eventually ended on a disappointing note.

From all indications, Nigerians are saying, It drifted out of the real situation and provided no concrete directions on how to arrest the failing situation to those vandals who have unleashed may harm on innocent Citizens.

From all angles looking at the speech, they also believe that no correlations between the main issues raised to inspire hopes for the Protesting youths since the endless wait for Buhari.

Families who lost their beloved are wounded by this emphasis.

They had waited for their wounds to be healed just with a word from the President.

But what they got was a further threat.

A restitution from President Buhari would have halted a perception and large outcry for his resignation.

Yet, it is seen that, the tortoise is hidden in his thick skin slowly crawling to take vengeance on poor and willing innocent Citizens.

Those who shot at the unarmed Protesting crowed at Lekki Toll Gate and many other parts of the country, may have heaped a temporary sigh of relief given the president glossing of the fundamental demands.

But they must understand that posterity awaits many of them who masterminded the Lekki Shootings as long as it is unfair to support any form of riot against the government.

For the youth, your hands are on the plough and don't look back.

It's obvious that, the President and other leaders in Nigeria are not willing to change their games and it's up to all of you to peacefully organize your demands and persistently push for it without creating crimes until those who are responsible for the good of the people hear you loud and clear.

Governor Godwin Obaseki's pedegrees rose to stadom in Edo State, when he was addressed as the "Brain Box" that initiated some of the policies of his immediate Predessessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, particularly, as the Head of the Economic team who worked probono for years in Comrade Adams Oshiomhole's Regime.

Speaking during the exclusive Chat, Hon Agbonifo discussed some of the potentials and qualities the Governor has, noting, “Obaseki is a cold-hearted killer, a great finisher".

The quality of his sterling Performances is there for all to see and with him doing so well at such a stage, there is only room for improvement which isn’t just good for Edo State, but also for the Country, and hopefully OBASEKI can shine for both state and country when re-elected come September 19 2020.

Preliminary investigations have it that, old model Toyota land cruisers and old Sequoia jeeps are being prepared for their use by the Conspirators of those assigned thugs.

Edo 2020: Security operatives foil attack on Obaseki's convoy

Security operatives on Thursday foiled an attack on Governor Godwin Obaseki's convoy in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident occurred in Ward 10, Apana, where the former national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, hails from and votes.

The thugs were allegedly dislodged by a combined team of security personnel and vigilante groups, who repelled their gunshots while the state Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu gave them a hot chase.

Shaibu, in a rare show of bravery, jumped out of his Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), to challenge the thugs, stunning members of the campaign team including Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, the former Chief of Staff to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

The pandemonium caused by the gunshots and the hurling of stones stalled the governor's convoy temporarily before the Ward-to-Ward campaign train berthed at Adams Oshiomhole's corridor at Apana Market Square in Ward 10.

Recall that the PDP campaign council had suspended its Ward-to-Ward rally earlier scheduled for 10th and 11th of August 2020 in the area, due to security reports of planned attack on the Governor and PDP campaign team.

A female police personnel, who was caught recording the footage of the foiled attack, got a close shave with death while a crowd of PDP supporters including women and youths were unmoved despite the hot exchange.

Addressing members of PDP and supporters at Apana Village Square on Thursday afternoon, Obaseki recalled several attempts by Oshiomhole, the former governor of the state to scuttle his re-election efforts through violent means.

He said the forthcoming poll would determine who will take charge of the levers of power in Edo politics.

The Governor vowed not to succumb to the antics of some members of the main opposition party in the state to plunge the state into chaos, which could result in the postponement of the election.

"As we were coming here (Village Square in Apana), you heard what happened. They went to hire thugs and began to shoot to prevent us from coming here. On September 19, 2020, use your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to ‘pepper them’.

“Ward 10 is a special ward. This election is special. It will show who is in charge of politics in Edo State. For all my eight years in Government, you know what I did for Comrade Oshiomhole. He said it with his mouth. I supported him to be the Governor. I raised funds for him. I worked for him and Edo State for eight years without receiving a dime,” he said.

 Edo Govt busts child-selling syndicate in Benin, recovers week-old baby

The Edo State Government has uncovered a baby-selling syndicate operating between Benin City and Anambra State, rescuing a one-week-old baby who was sold for over N300, 000.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, said the traffickers have been arrested and charged to court.

According to her, “The investigation unit of the Edo State Task Force Against Human Trafficking on the 5th of August, 2020 made a breakthrough, uncovering a baby-selling syndicate with baby factories in Edo State, Anambra and other parts of the county.

“Upon arrest of one of the accomplices in Edo State, she confessed and mentioned the name of a woman who is resident in Anambra State, where she operates the baby factory. The woman, in Anambra, upon further interrogation told the operatives that the baby in question is at the clinic with the mother.

“The woman and her daughter led the operatives to the purported clinic where the mother and the child were recovered and the acclaimed nurse who delivered the girl was arrested.”

Prof Omorogbe continued:  “In the course of the operation, we discovered that a young girl who delivered a baby boy on Tuesday 28th of July, 2020, had her baby sold the following day with a promise to give her N300, 000 as her share from the sale of her baby; she was found in the house with another lady who is pregnant and about to deliver and could not give a satisfactory explanation of her living in the house.”
