I’ll pass evidence of Ize-Iyamu’s fraud to EFCC — Oshiomhole

I’ll pass evidence of Ize-Iyamu’s fraud to EFCC — Oshiomhole

Governor Adams Oshiomhole says he has begun compiling vouchers and other evidence of the fraud perpetrated by the past PDP Government which Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu served as Secretary to the State Government and pass on to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja for investigation and prosecution.

The Governor warned the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and leaders of the PDP that the APC train will crush them if they don’t stay off the rail tracks.

Speaking at the Local Government rally of the APC in Fugar, on Saturday, Oshiomhole said: “when I’m going to Anegbette, I will go with the vouchers where the past PDP government with Ize-Iyamu as Secretary to Government allocated money which they said was for the construction of Anegbette bridge. In their books, they claimed they have built a bridge to Anegbette, and everything must go to Abuja.

“They collected the money in full and Anegbette got nothing, Even to Ayua, my mother’s village, an earth road, Ize-Iyamu as SSG, in their books, which I will circulate, they claimed they did the road from Jattu to Ayua to Iyiukhu and they collected the money and pocketed it.

“That is why we have to warn him to stay off the rail tracks because the train is coming and if he’s not careful the train will crush him. He can’t afford a fight.”

The Governor took a swipe at the PDP for crticising the construction of a state University in Edo North, saying they lacked foresight.

“PDP thinks Edo North is not part of the state. Where Ogiadomhe is seated, Dan Orbih is seated, people are saying why should we build Edo University in Iyamho. So I ask them, during PDP time, they built a University but they called it after somebody, should I build Oshiomhole University, Iyamho? No. I will rather build Edo University for the people of Edo, for the youths of Edo, for Edo people to own and Edo people own it.
“How can anyone, who understands the logics of development in a world that is knowledge-driven, a digital economy question the wisdom of investing in education? If they cannot see tomorrow, I have seen next tomorrow, that is what leadership is all about.

“Are you aware that Ize Iyamy went to Port Harcourt, not to pay a courtesy call but to visit EFCC and he wrote in his handwriting that he Ize-Iyamu collected N700 million and another N500 million from Fidelity Bank, he took this money and shared with his friends, including Dan Orbih. When Dan Orbih collected his shares, when he came home, did he tell you that he had his share of the N700 million?

My joy is that under President Buhari what they thought couldn’t happen is happening now. They are now writing statements how they took, how they shared, but they will continue and refund the money.

“So on September 10, your task is simple, vote for us because of the jobs we have done and more we will do and I ask you to trust Godwin Obaseki, he has always been in the engine room, even as they looted the treasury and Edo is very broke, your state, Edo State is working, we are paying salaries as and when due, when they were arguing about salaries, I decided to increase it. I increased it because I am a worker.”
The APC gubernatorial candidate, Mr Godwin Obaseki in his speech said his priority will be to expand the economy of the state.

He said investors have already visited the state with a view to setting up large-scale commercial farms for the people of Etsako Central. ”the investors have already come to check out the area in Ekperi”, he said.
He stressed that the present administration of Comrade Oshiomhole has already laid the foundation, what is left is for him to expand the economy so that the people can get work.
He said women as good managers of money will have access to soft loans. He told the women to shun the emergency loan the PDP is giving them, saying it is a ploy to hoodwink them. He said a party which had no programme for women over the years cannot come on the eve of an election to deceive them with dubious loans.
He promised that youth agenda will be on the front burner.

UBTH Stem Cells Centre Gets Face Lift

UBTH Stem Cells Centre Gets Face Lift

The House of Representatives, on Thursday called on the Minister of Health to urgently look into the dilapidated Stem Cell Transplantation Centre in University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) to resuscitate it.

The house also urged that steps should be taken to establish other such centres in all geo political zones in Nigeria.

This followed a motion under matters of urgent public importance by Hon. Philip Shaibu (APC-Edo), which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.

Moving the motion, Shaibu said that Sickel cell disease was the most prevalent inherited disease in Nigeria.
According to him, it is estimated that three per cent of Nigerians have sickle cell disease and 25 per cent are carriers of the disease gene.

“Nigeria has the highest number of persons living with sickle cell disease in the world and the only cure for this debilitating disease is Stem Cell Transplantation.

He added that the medical procedure was also the cure for blood cancer, bone marrow failure and other malignant and non malignant disease.

He explained that in September 2011, with little resources and basic technique within approved standard required by WHO, a Nigerian doctor Prof Bazuaye Nosakhare and his team performed the first successful Stem cell transplantation.

“Recall that in 2012 WHO added Nigeria to the list of countries that can perform stem cell transplantation in the world.”

The lawmaker further expressed concern that there was only one functional Stem Cell Transplant Room built from Internally Generated Revenue  by the UBTH.
He stated that since 2011 only three successful Stem Cell Transplantation had been performed.

The house therefore, called on the Federal Executive Council to see the urgent need to build an international Stem Cell Transplant Centre in Benin to serve over 5million Nigerians.

The house also called on the government at all levels to see the urgent need to subsidize the cost of transplantation in Nigeria to enable affordability.

The house also mandated the committee on Health Institution to look into the matter and report back to the house within four weeks.

Udo Community in rant and rave as soldier shoots NURTW over outrageous toll

Udo Community in rant and rave as soldier shoots NURTW over outrageous toll
By Eben Enasco Kingsley, Benin City

Okomu oil plc workers, schools, shops and other commuters transiting UDO community in Ovia South west Local Government Area of Edo State had their journey interrupted following massive protests embarked upon by angry youths over the deliberate shooting of their kinsman said to be employed by National Union Of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Udo branch by a soldier attached to Okomu oil plc.

It was gathered that the frenzy atmosphere broke out when a trigger-happy six-heavily armed military men stormed the toll gate in a white hilux van marked 033 with inscription Okomu oil Plc asserting that the barricades allegedly placed by NURTW and other revenue agents be evacuated whilst the later had refused to comply with as heavy tension erupted. Chairman of the spot who spoke on anonymity said at about 1pm on Monday the man shot by the soldier ordered 10 drivers to park their trailers loaded with fertilizer and as they obeyed, a man identified as Ebo and store keeper of Okomu Oil PLC came out as the one in charge of the packed fertilizers trailers. The said Ebo is from the community and a staff of Okomu oil. Trouble however, bigoted when the said Ebo later returned with six- armed soldiers. The soldiers later went into heated argument that eventually led to the shooting of the now injured toll collector while others scampered for safety.

When we visited Mr Iyendo Reuben in the hospital is currently recuperating, he opined that the soldiers were invited to ensure that the fertilizer contractor evades toll fee while admitting that he is as staff of the NURTW.
While the heated argument lasted, one of the armed military men lost his patient as he unavoidably pop his pellets in the direction of one Mr. Iyendo Reuben legs as he sustained heavy injury that triggered the boils.
According to an idiom in our native dialect, when you throw seeds of corn on birds, you would not expect extra motivation to charge the birds to go after it and that was what got the youths irked and perhaps resisted the men in uniform which aptly led to economic, social and academics activities to a hurt.
The protesters resorted to use of fire made of disused tyres and woods as it was sets at different spots on the major routes connecting Udo-Ukomu, Udo-Enikorogha, Udo-Iguobazuwa and other adjoined villages in the localities; which witnessed vehicular movement disruptions for several hours
The embattled toll gate is mounted on the popular udo-Okomu high way which is about 550meters after veering off Ora- Igueobazuwa axis.
However, it took the intervention of Divisional Police Officer, his men attached to Igueobazuwa divisional headquarters and the Iyase of Udo Community to stem down the rampaging youths.
Investigations revealed that similar toll gate was also at Ofunmwengbe junction(okada junction) within the same council with commuters lamenting that they have been subjected to excessive multiple toll whilst calling for the onward interventions of the state government.
When our correspondent contacted the Spokeman 4BRIGADE, Nigeria Army, Benin City, Capt. Mohammed Maidawa he disclosed that he was yet to receive any information on the issue but however promised to make contact and get back to us as at press time of filing in this report.
Relatedly, the acting public relations officer Edo State Command SP Stephen Onwochei confirmed the shooting of a member of NURTW, adding that a statement have been obtained with the commissioner directing a full scale investigation into the shooting
The acting Police Spokesman however appealed to residents to remain calm as the police will continue to ensure adequate protection of lives and property in the state.
Meanwhile, comments accredited to the Iyase and Ihama of Udo, Chief Patrick Igbinidu and Chief Francis Osas Ihama respectively submitted that the shooting was unreasonable and unacceptable while condemning it in its entirety and as well calling for thorough investigation with view to prosecuting the soldier which he noted will serve as outright deterrents to some soldiers who feels they are above the law of the land.
The chief also lamented that the boy shot by the soldier do not work for the community and the soldier too. He maintained that he will set up a 5-man adhoc committee to look at how it all happened by restoring peace among dwellers.
“The community does not have problem with Okomu oil. The boy is not working for the community. The soldier is not also working for okomu oil, “he exclaimed
Similarly, attempts made by the reporter to reach the state chairman of NURTW, Comrade Odion Olaye proved abortive as he decline comments.
